Purpose:

This symposium aims to clarify how French modern art trends, art criticism, and aesthetics were introduced and developed in the artistic environment of modern Kyoto (circa 1868-1945), compared with the reception of French modern art in major cities around the world. It will explore the aspects selected by Kyoto-based artists, critics, and scholars and how they uniquely expanded upon these elements.

In the first part, the reception of French modern art in major cities around the world, such as London, New York, Berlin, and Tokyo, will be examined.
